i woke up this morning afraid

that i had fallen from
writer to story
and tumbled down,
from verb to noun.

Linguistic Inventory:

1. Title syntactically attached to poem.
2. Repetition of / f / in line 1. Ties to / f / syllable initial in afraid.
3. Repetition of / t / in line 2. Also / t / in tumbled in line 3 ties lines 2 and 3 together.
4. Repetition of identical phonological, morphological and syntactical unit with choice of to ties lines 2 and 4 together.
5. Rhyme ties lines 3 and 4 together, along with repetition of / t / sound.
6. From the word down in line 3, poem morphologically simplifies to monosyllabic words, semantically suggesting decline or disintegration.
7. Poem syntactically disintegrates as well. It begins more syntactically complex than when it ends.
8. Semantically, the poem also plays with linguistic concepts, like grammatical categories (verb to noun).
9. The thing that bothers me most is how disconnected lines 1 and 2 are.
