I think most people have an inner amateur philosopher inside them that cranks out theories to explain themselves and the world. A lot of these theories are crackheaded and that’s what makes them fun.

1. For example, I think that if UFOs are real, the reason that they are so capable of such silence and seemingly unreal maneuvering and other strange things is because the crafts themselves are some kind of lifeform.

And while I’d guess that they are probably engineered that way, I secretly hope that somewhere there is a planet of UFO farmers.

2. I think Google just might be god. No, really. At least, I think it’s evolving that way. The folks at Pinchbeck’s Reality Sandwich think so, too (Google is God?).

I sometimes google phrases or names with personal meaning just to see what a search will pop up. For instance, when my grandmother was dying, I googled her name. The first result for a search of her maiden name was a page of obituaries. The first result for her married name was a link to a cemetery. Spooky interconnectedness!

3. I think that nihilism is boring and life is secretly hilarious, but since it’s transitioning through an angsty adolescent phase right now, it doesn’t know that quite yet.

4. I’m fascinated by Catholicism’s repetitive use of pine cone symbolism. It’s a symbol that pops us across the spectrum of the world’s religions, from Paganism to Hinduism and beyond. Scientists have noted that the pine cone is also the shape of the brain’s pineal gland. Some consider this gland to be “the seat of the soul” or the mystical third eye. Interestingly, the inside of the pineal gland contains rods and cones just like the eye does.

Coincidence? I’m thinking not.
